The Japanese gods taught me slow fashion

In Japan, there is an old saying that goes something like this.

If you don’t use things carefully, you will be punished by the gods.

It is said that there are many gods in Japan and that gods reside in things.
My grandmother used to teach me to use things carefully. But I wanted something new. Reducing waste, not just in the fashion industry, is a way to improve the global environment.

So, don’t you think it is necessary to use things carefully in order not to increase the amount of garbage?
In this article, I would like to share with you what I, as a fashion lover, do to make things last longer.

You may think that quality products are expensive. But the opposite is also true. I bought a T-shirt for ten dollars ten years ago, and I still wear it because the fabric is very durable.

I think it is important to know what kind of philosophy and production background the brand has. So I read and check their web pages carefully.

And if I like it, I can buy it used instead of buying a new one. I am not asking you to buy expensive things. There are a lot of great things you can buy for less money.

Be aware of how often you use it

Do you have a favorite item that makes you feel good about yourself when you wear it? Do you like wearing it all the time?

If so, they may get torn or you may have to throw them away sooner or later.

Therefore, it is a good idea to have several items in different seasons and materials.

In my case, I use about four or five shirts to last me through spring and summer. I am not a minimalist, however,  the minimalist lifestyle can be useful, don’t be excessive, you don’t need too much, and don’t be frugal, you need to look presentable.

Lastly, pay attention to your laundry guidelines, but I will talk about that next time.

Style starts from the shoe upwards

Serious matters such as car maintenance and home repairs are often kept in a spotlight, perhaps its because its a major issue that requires immediate attention but what about the smaller things in life that needs our care?

I rarely maintained my shoes as well as my clothes which ended up in me throwing them away easily, thus I learned how to maintain my belongings properly 🙂

Specifically in my case, I polish my shoes regularly and spend my times drinking coffee while listening to my favorite music.

I also came across my favorite Japanese saying that says

“style starts from the shoe upwards”

which is why I began brushing the dust of my shoes a decade ago, as a result I’ve been wearing them for a decade now.
